Introduction
In Eastern Slovakia we call it hrudka, but this traditional Easter dish has also other names like syrek, which means cheese in Slovak, however it has nothing in common with cheese.

Thanks for recipe. Ate this as a child. A little bland, would it be wrong to add pepper? Mary Recht @ drecht1108@comcast.net
Hi Mary, thank you, yes, you can add pepper and for example raisins as well, but this is the way we prepare it at home.
Just like mine, but no sugar.
Hi Maryjean, yes, thank you, of course you can prepare sweet or salty hrudka, depends on the origin of the recipe.
What do you eat it with or on?
Hi Charlotte, we eat it with juicy and tender ham (cooked), paska bread, fresh ground horseradish and beetroot mostly during Easter.
My husband calls it Cidak. I make it for him every Easter but no sugar. i usually add peppercorns.
Thank you for your comment. Yes, it is quite common to prepare salty version of hrudka (or syrek/cidek as you call it) with peppercorn and herbs or the sweet version with dried fruits. I wish you a beautiful day.
